Parish Ministry of Music - "We entered as strangers and walked out as a family"
As the parish began its journey of life, faith, and accomplishing a
mission of building its structural church, the Voices of Mater Dei
was established. It has been a blessing to the parish and has
continuously provided music for the various masses. Contrary to the
belief of many in the community, the Voices of Mater Dei is not just
a musical group; it is a family. Because of the Voices of Mater Dei,
many have been assimilated into the parish community. Through the
eyes of a member of the group, “I was a stranger; and they welcomed
me into their lives.”
Inspired by last year’s production, many have joined together as one,
regardless of the fact that they were strangers, to express their love
for Him. This family-in-the-making was connected by the love of the
Lord and a sense of belonging. We were called on this journey to not
only show our affection, but to show others the way to Him. Some people
touch our lives only briefly, while others leave a lasting impression and
are never forgotten. Our calling on this mission is to touch other people’s
lives so they can remember how much we go through just to get our message
out. But, this was not our first calling to articulate.
In the beginning, St. Rita’s church choir helped lead the congregation
into uplifting their voices to proclaim the name of God through singing
his prayers. Once a choir was established, we decided to have our first
fundraiser to help with the building fund for our church by producing our
first Christmas concert in 2004. There after, we performed for our first
dinner dance singing Christmas Calypso, Silent Night, and My Life is in
Your Hands. The following year, we had a second concert, labeling ourselves
as One Church, One Voice. That inspired others to join our Family, and
we simply grew into a stronger pact.
The choir’s friendship and love is that which can be divided endlessly,
but still cannot be diminished. Great friends like the Voices of Mater
Dei are hard to find, difficult to leave, and impossible to forget.
